Innovation Rooted in Halacha: The Story Behind Our Kosher-Certified Urns and Hot Pots

At the forefront of the kosher appliance industry, our branded hot pots and urns are produced under the meticulous supervision of Rabbi Ortner and Rabbi Gruber. As leaders in the Jewish market, we are deeply committed to upholding halachic standards while meeting the evolving needs of our community.

Identifying the Need

Over time, our founder recognized two major challenges affecting kosher households:

  1. Damage During Tevilah (Immersion): As appliance technology advanced—featuring increasingly sensitive circuit boards and internal wiring—many units were becoming severely damaged during the required immersion in a mikvah. In some cases, these devices became completely unusable, resulting in wasted costs and inconvenience. More seriously, using an electric appliance after immersion without proper drying or inspection poses a serious safety risk, including the potential for electrical shock or fire.
  2. Halachic Challenges on Yom Tov: Traditionally, adding cold water to an urn or hot pot on Yom Tov could activate an electric component, potentially violating Yom Tov halacha. This created a complex and often impractical situation for those seeking to maintain halachic integrity without compromising on convenience.

Our Halachic and Engineering Solution

With a strong desire to help the community, we worked hand-in-hand with experienced engineers and respected Rabbonim to develop a revolutionary solution that addresses both concerns:

  • Eliminating the Need for Tevilah: We restructured our entire manufacturing and supply process so that every part of the urn and hot pot—from materials to assembly—remains under Jewish ownership at all times. According to halacha, this exempts the units from the obligation of tevilah, ensuring both halachic compliance and long-term appliance integrity.
  • Safe Addition of Cold Water on Yom Tov: We designed a specialized thermostat system that can be placed in an “off” position while still maintaining the water’s temperature. This allows users to safely add cold water on Yom Tov without activating any electric component, preserving both the heat and the halachic requirements.

Full Halachic Compliance

One of the more nuanced halachic issues we tackled was ensuring that the water visible in the external gauge remains sufficiently hot to prevent bishul (cooking) on Shabbos—especially relevant when using a percolator. After extensive testing and collaboration with halachic authorities, we successfully met this requirement.

We are proud to announce that our units are certified by both Rabbi Ortner and Rabbi Gruber as halachically sound and fully permissible for use on both Shabbos and Yom Tov.

Important Clarification:
In an earlier shipment of some models, a label mistakenly stated: “The water in the gauge is constantly hot (following all chumros).” While well-intentioned, this wording may not reflect the full range of halachic opinions, as different poskim have varying standards regarding water visibility and temperature. To avoid any misunderstanding, we have removed this language from all newer packaging and marketing materials. We encourage users to consult their own halachic authority regarding this matter.

We’re proud to share that our units are certified by both Rabbi Ortner and Rabbi Gruber as fully compliant with halachic standards and suitable for use on both Shabbos and Yom Tov.

A Final Note

Although our products were developed in close accordance with halachic guidelines and have received formal rabbinic certification, some Poskim may still advise pouring out approximately half a cup of water from the hot pot before Shabbos, following the initial boil. As always, we encourage all users to consult with their personal halachic authority.

By combining technical innovation with deep halachic consultation, we’ve created a product that brings real solutions to kosher homes—enhancing safety, compliance, and peace of mind for every Shabbos and Yom Tov.
